course order saving, nexthoop indicator
Nothing special for racing games, but for me it was a challenge.
players can now use a "build race" while in spaysmode to fly the warpship through hoops in order to organize a specific course,, then "race" it such that the hoops will indicate which is next with a light-field on that hoop, which is also directional based on the direction the gate was traversed during "build race" mode. gates may be traversed any number of times during buildrace mode, and each direction will be stored (for example, the center hoop of a figure 8 track). Only one course order can be saved per save, so in order to save multiple course orders on a given save, the player must give a different name to the save, generating a new save file.
If the player initiates "build race" mode, all race order data is lost instantly, so if a player wishes to save a course order, they must do so before buiding another one, or accidentally hitting build race. While in build race mode, if the player moves TOO FAST through the gate (at the highest speed setting it is rare but still is possible), it may accidentally store that hoop in the wrong direction. This is because the physics engine and position engine run separately and may be out of sync by a small amount of duration. Presently the best practice while organizing the course order is to use normal speed. Even while using VH speed, it is rare, but out of 20 gates in a line, travelled at full speed, there will always be at least one. at normal I have not had this happen to me since my last attempt to eliminate it, but I imagine it is possible. In the event this happens, it should be easy enough to simply toggle build-race mode, and then fly the course again to fix the order and resave it. Saving a course order will always overwrite any course order previously on that savename, and only one course order can presently be made at once.
There is no in-game mechanism to share your saved course orders/ placed gates,, however the game will simply search the appropriate file, so it is possible to navigate to your appdata/tsmspace/aceracerssp/level name and share those files,,, presently the course order is a separate file!! so if you want to share the course order, you must share the .crs and .rys files ,, if only the .crs file is present, the gates will load but with no race built ,, if only the .rys file is present it will not be listed as loadable. the .crs file saves all of the placed objects, and the .rys file only saves the gate order.
There is no racing timer system,, but the purpose of having course orders is not limited to racing,, all navigation practice and experimentation can use courses (including specific gate order and direction) to present a player with particular navigational challenges. I do hope to later include some feature sets oriented towards actual racing, however for now the focus is on making it possible to somewhat simulate being at a drone park. It is always possible to record your session on a screen recorder and as long as you are not within tenths of a second then you can have a degree of timer sharing in this way. Likely I will try to make it so that the player must be meeting some other conditions while passing through each gate, for example if they are docked to a dockable weight, or even a specific dockable weight, and enabling players to build course orders that require docking to dockports, docking to dockable weights and towing them through portions of the course order,, etc. I am also interested in making a few more types of vehicle with different controls,, for example one that uses vectored thrust like a missile, and on that is able to dock to much larger weights and push them around, as in a loader. I can't say for sure what will be next, however, as it will depend on what I find easy (since i don't know how to program), what I am particularly inspired to do, etc. I also would like to get better at making camera options.
